Buffalo Bill held one of the 1st modern rodeos – the July 4th celebration led to the creation of his Wild West. Carolyn Lockhart, inducted into the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, was the first president of the Stampede Board. She said, “We opened our hearts for the bucking contest since a Wild West show without bucking would be about as satisfying as a pie without the filling”!
